Aalto University Scholarships 2022 are available to students subject to tuition fees. Some joint degree programmes have their own tuition fees and scholarship schemes. The scholarship program can be changed at any time by Aalto University.

The Aalto University Scholarship Program recognizes talented non-EU/EEA students. Scholarships at Aalto University are awarded on a competitive basis based on merit. Scholarships are limited per degree programme and depend on the number of non-EU/EEA students selected for each degree programme.

Scholarships are awarded during the academic evaluation stage of a specific study option’s admission process. A scholarship may be awarded to the best applicants liable to pay tuition fees for each study option. The study option website provides academic evaluation criteria for each study option.

Scope of scholarship
Tuition fees at Aalto University are covered either 50 % (Category B) or 100 % (Category A). Waivers for tuition fees are awarded by Aalto University.
Aalto University does not currently offer university-wide scholarships to cover living costs in Finland. Each student is responsible for covering their own living expenses (approximately 800 EUR per month) and study-related costs. How to apply for a scholarship?
During the application period, non-EU/EEA citizens can apply for the scholarship along with their preferred study option on the same application form. You will be asked questions in the application form that determine your fee liability. If you are considered liable for a tuition fee, you will have the option of applying or not applying for a scholarship at Aalto University. After the application period closes, you cannot apply for the scholarship.
Aalto University scholarships (i.e. waivers of tuition fees) can only be applied for by students who are liable to pay tuition fees at Aalto University.
Scholarship decisions
Scholarship decisions are based on academic evaluations of the applicants selected for the study program. The academic evaluation criteria (available on the programme’s website) are used to evaluate applications in the programmes.
Scholarships are awarded simultaneously with admission decisions. In accordance with the Universities Act, a scholarship decision cannot be appealed.

Duration of scholarship
There are scholarships awarded for the duration of the degree programme. A bachelor’s degree takes three (3) years full-time study, and a master’s degree takes two (2) years full-time study. Studying according to a personal study plan approved by the scholarship committee is required.
Aalto University Incentive Scholarship Programme
Aalto University also offers incentive-based scholarships that reward fee paying students who make good progress in their studies (i.e. students paying full or partial fees at Aalto University). Scholarships are awarded to students who complete a minimum of 60 ECTS credits during an academic year according to their approved personal study plans.
Scholarships are valued at 1 500 euros. Scholarships are paid out in the following autumn term (or upon graduation, if applicable).
Finland Scholarship for Master students
Aalto University provides Finland scholarships as part of the national Finland Scholarships programme funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. During the period 2022-2024, Finland scholarships are available.
Finland Scholarships are available to non-EU/EEA applicants who are liable to pay tuition fees at Aalto University.
The scholarships are merit-based and awarded according to the academic evaluation criteria of each study option (available on each study option’s website). Scholarships are awarded to the top applicants liable for tuition fees for each study option.
Scope of scholarship
For the first year of study, the Finland Scholarship covers 100% tuition fee (awarded as a tuition fee waiver) and 5000 Euros worth of relocation and other costs. Upon arrival in Finland and registration at the university as an attending student, the student will be paid 5000 euros to a Finnish bank account. The scholarship amount of 5000 euros is paid only once during the first year of studies.
How to apply for a scholarship?
With the same application form, non-EU/EEA applicants who are liable for tuition fees at Aalto University can also apply for the Finland Scholarship. After the application deadline has passed, no applications will be accepted.
Scholarship decisions

Duration of scholarship
For the normative period of study of the degree programme, tuition fees are waived. For a master’s degree, the normative study period is two (2) years full-time. Scholarships require full-time study and studying in accordance with the Plan of study approved by the student. Scholarships of 5000 euros are awarded once during the first year of study.
