Scholarship Benefits

Scholarships from the University of Waterloo provide recipients with the following benefits:

  • The David Johnston-Lebovic Foundation International Experience Awards will be awarded for a one-term study experience worth up to $2,500, a one-term work or volunteer experience worth up to $5,000, and a two-term work or volunteer experience worth up to $10,000.
  • The International Master’s Award of Excellence is worth $2,500 per term for a maximum of 6 terms.

Eligibility Criteria for University of Waterloo Scholarships

To be eligible for University of Waterloo Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Required Languages: English
  • Eligible Countries: All World Countries
  • Scholarships are available to students with good academic standing (normally a minimum 70% average at the undergraduate level; a minimum 75% average at the graduate level).
  • Applicants must be full-time undergraduate and graduate students in any faculty who wish to participate in an international experience in Israel, including a minimally-paid or unpaid international co-op work placement, a volunteer placement, an academic exchange, or a study term relevant to academic requirements.
  • Students with a valid Canadian study permit who are registered full-time and assessed international tuition fees.
  • It is normally awarded to students in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper).
  • Normally given only to students entering their first term of their program (term 1.0).
  • Academic excellence must be demonstrated by students based on criteria established by the Faculty.
  • The student must meet the academic progress requirements of their program and not have outstanding probationary admission requirements.
  • It could be combined with other scholarships (e.g., UW Graduate Scholarship, OGS, etc.). Please note that scholarships are different from sponsorships.
  • Students should not be receiving government or agency sponsorships concurrently (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan sponsorship, etc.) or be self-funding in excess of the minimum levels of support established by their Faculty.
  • Nomination for an IMAE is not available to students grandparented under the existing IMSA program; however, students with an IMSA for a previously completed master’s degree can be considered.
  • This award will be automatically considered for students who apply for admission. Faculty and departments will define their own internal process for selecting recipients based on eligibility criteria and allocation.
  • Faculty may impose stricter eligibility criteria if necessary.
